If you’ve ever used a leather holster, or a leather/kydex holster, you have probably had the thing make a few squeaking noises when you move around. Luckily, there are a few quick fixes to help remedy this problem.
Tip #1: Baby Powder
Having some baby powder around is never a bad idea, and it works wonders with squeaky holsters. With your holster off, sprinkle some baby powder all over the front of your holster on any leather, and work it in with your fingers. With my leather/kydex hybrid, I rub a little on the inside of the kydex as well.
The baby powder acts as a barrier between your holster and anything that makes it squeak such as hardware and/or your belt. I find it necessary to do this only once every few months. Once the squeak comes back, it’s more baby powder. A quick, cheap and easy fix.
Tip #2: Adhesive Felt Pads
Felt pads attached to the part of the holster clips that come in contact with the leather also work great at minimizing the holster squeak. These pads can be purchased at any department store for only a few dollars. The pack I bought had 12 pads in it; plenty for years to come. The pads act as a soft barrier between your metal clips and leather.
Those are the only two tips that we have because honestly, they have worked every time for us. We love our leather/kydex holsters and it’s important to get rid of that squeak!
