Loaded Gun Left In Rental Car By Concealed Carrier, Later Found By 6-Year-Old

SPOKANE, WASHINGTON — A family that had rented a car came upon a surprise that they weren’t expecting to find under the seat – a loaded handgun.

The family’s daughter found the gun underneath the driver’s seat.

Police are now trying to get the gun back to it’s rightful owner. In the meantime, I’m here to call the owner out for his negligence.

A local news station spoke with the gun owner, who told them that he had rented the car for three weeks while his truck was being repaired. He also said that he carries a firearm at all times and has his concealed carry permit.

He said that he thought he cleaned everything out of the car before returning it — including the gun.

Well, ya didn’t.

The family that found the gun weren’t the only ones driving around with it. In fact, at least two other renters of the car were driving around with the loaded gun under the seat.

It makes me wonder how well this gun owner checks his inventory. If one of my guns was ever missing, I’d know very quickly — especially if it were one that was supposed to be with me.

The rental car company, Enterprise, released the following statement after the incident:

“This is a terrible situation I want to make it clear that the safety of our customers is our number priority. On return of each vehicle, our procedure is to clean everything including checking under seats, in the glove compartment, in the center console, and in door compartments. We are investigating what went wrong, and are going over proper procedures with all of our service agents to make sure this does not happen again. We are so sorry this happened, and are working to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

If you can’t handle the responsibility of gun ownership, you shouldn’t own guns. Period.

Disagree with me? Think gun owners should get a ‘pass’ when something like this happens? Am I being too hard on him? Chime in below and state your case.
