Parenting WIN — Young Girl Discovers SBI Agent’s Pistol In The Bathroom, Notifies Parents Immediately

HARRISBURG, NORTH CAROLINA — Showing that even law enforcement are not immune to bone-headed mistakes, a female State Bureau of Investigation is suspected of leaving her side-arm in the toilet of a women’s bathroom in a restaurant.  To make matters worse, it was a 5-year-old girl who discovered the gun.

WBTV-3 reports that the 5-year-old girl identified the gun and came out of the restroom to inform her parents.

The father of the child was understandably miffed about the whole scenario.  The parents informed a waiter, and restaurant staff secured the firearm.  They contacted Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office and notified law enforcement of the situation.  It didn’t take long for the SBI agent to realize her mistake and return for her gun.

The 5-year-old’s father, Jody [Sarris] said after the waiter removed the gun, a woman returned for the gun.

“I noticed she walked straight in the bathroom with a look on her face, like a panic look, and it was even more so when she walked out realizing it was gone,” Jody Sarris recalled.

Jody Sarris said the woman showed a badge and walked out with the firearm.

North Carolina’s SBI confirms the incident and is purportedly investigating the matter.

The father of the child decided to make the case front and center, while acknowledging that mistakes can happen.

“I know we’re all human, we all make mistakes. That’s a pretty big mistake for my 5-year-old little girl to find a gun in the bathroom,” Jody Sarris said to WBTV-3.

Jennifer Sarris, the mother of the child, added, “to me it is a big deal, because it could have took my child’s life, it could have took someone else’s life if her or someone else had found it and been curious.”

Yes, it’s pretty irresponsible to leave a firearm unattended in the bathroom.  It’s something we’ve discussed at length because it’s such a prevalent question for the concealed carry community.

The thoughtless action of this SBI agent certainly did put a little girl at risk.  The real winner in this story, though, is the little girl herself.  She realized even at such a young age that she was dealing with something very serious — a loaded handgun.  And thankfully, she was able to muster the courage to come out and tell her parents.

That is adult-level awesomeness right there.

And for the agent that left her pistol in the bathroom — you should know better.  Thankfully, this situation ended appropriately.  Hopefully, this is a lesson we can all learn from.
