A video shared by a friend on Facebook got me laughing, and sad, before I even hit the play button. It shows a group of police officers surrounding a suspect armed with a knife (or two). Without guns, all they can do is run away when the suspect gets to close during his slashing episode.

It makes you wonder; is it really safer without firearms? These officers are risking their lives and need to be extremely close to this guy in order to make any attempt at stopping him. What if he decides to go after an innocent bystander?
Well, they could always mace him I guess.
At one point, an officer gets extremely close to the suspect with either mace or a stun gun. You can see the screen shot here:
Now I’m no expert, but there’s no way in hell that I’d get myself that close to a crazy guy with a knife. No way.
One of the officer’s co-workers is also feeling the same way I am, and pulls her away from the suspect. “Nope nope, that’s not a good idea” he likely said to himself.
I hope his next thought was, “If only there were something that we could use to stop the suspect from a distance…”
Ah well.
