POULSBO, WASHINGTON — A man is dead after he was shot by the homeowner of the property he was trying to get into after causing an accident close by.

The incident started at about 4:30 p.m. on Viking Way, where 38-year-old Eric William Rose was believed to have been driving a 2008 Jeep. Witnesses said he was traveling at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a pickup.

Rose then continued driving, but crossed into the oncoming lane and had a nearly head-on collision with another vehicle.

After the wreck, Rose ran to a nearby home and attempted to enter. He was met by the homeowner and after a confrontation, the homeowner fired multiple shots from a handgun.

Rose died at the scene.

The homeowner has not been arrested and is cooperating with police.

These are the types of bizarre incidents that can find any one of us, and it’s an important reminder to be armed even while at home.
