UPDATE: The concealed carrier in this story was a female, incorrectly reported as male in the original article below.

ADRIAN, MICHIGAN — An armed customer held a man at gunpoint after police say that man stabbed an 85-year-old.

Police were called at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, to Meijer, 217 US-223, to a stabbing in progress within the store, according to the Adrian Police Department.

While en route, officers were told a suspect was being held at the scene at gunpoint by a concealed pistol license holder until they arrived to take the suspect into custody, police said.

The man who was stabbed suffered wounds to his neck and head. He did not make it, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not clear what provoked the attack, if anything. A 29-year-old was taken into custody.

It’s terrible to hear that this elderly man lost his life, but at the very least, his killer wasn’t able to walk away from the attack thanks to this armed citizen.

A stabbing can be a gruesome scene, but it seems as though this armed citizen kept his cool and successfully held the suspect.

These attacks can happen so quickly, sometimes unprovoked, and is near impossible to avoid them all. Maintaining situational awareness is important, and reading body language of the people around you.

Stay safe.
