3 Infants Endangered By Irresponsible Gun Owner And His Brother During Negligent Discharge

EDMONTON, KENTUCKY – A man was shot in the wrist with his own gun by his brother in a case of negligent discharge due to stupidity.  The Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the staff at T.J. Samson Hospital staff reporting a gunshot victim in their Emergency Department. They found Shane D. Paceley suffering a through gunshot wound to his wrist.  He had been brought to the hospital by his brother, Jessie R. Lothery.  Here’s where this story gets interesting.

According to MCSO, the two were at a house on Wilson Circle, sitting on a couch and smoking marijuana. Also in the living room – three infants.  Paceley took out his 9mm Ruger pistol to show Lothery, who took it from him. The pistol then discharged once, with the bullet going through Paceley’s wrist and into the couch, in the direct vicinity of the infants. Instead of calling 911, Lothery drove Paceley to the hospital to seek treatment for the gunshot wound. Paceley was transferred to another facility and admitted to the hospital.

Lothery was also taken to another facility…and admitted to the Barren County Detention Center. He is charged with second-degree assault and five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

So many things wrong here, beginning with the total ignorance of handing a gun while consuming a controlled substance, in the presence of infants, and ignoring every gun safety rule. It goes without saying that this could have been a terribly tragic event.
