Man Wounded In Shootout With Vehicle Break-In Suspects

BOLINGBROOK, ILLINOIS – A man was shot when he went outside to investigate a vehicle break-in outside of his home. Bolingbrook police were called to the 600 block of Cambridge Way at 11:46 p.m. for a report of a person shot in the stomach.

Upon arrival, the officers found the victim, who was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.   The man told investigators that he was inside his home when he “heard a noise outside and saw the dome light lit on his vehicle.”

He armed himself with a handgun and went outside to investigate, where he observed multiple people breaking into his car. One of the suspects opened fire on the man, hitting him in the abdomen.  The owner returned fire, causing the suspects to flee the scene. It was not immediately known if any of the suspects were injured, and police have not indicated the number of suspects or any descriptions.

When it comes to property; don’t defend it. Unless a loved one was inside the vehicle as it was being broken into, you risk many things when you introduce yourself into the situation. Is your life worth an insured piece of property?
