Brian Laundrie Lookalike Held At Gunpoint By Feds On Appalachian Trail

Published

If you happen to look like Brian Luandire, you run the high risk of having a bad day in the near future.

A man from upstate New York found this out the hard way when he was on a hiking trip with his significant other. An afternoon nap turned frightening in a second.

Ithaca couple Severin Beckwith and Anna Brettmann were catching a few winks at the Lodge at Fontana Village Resort after lunch when they heard a knock and their door flew open, the New Yorker reported.

“Next thing I see is a bunch of guys with riot shields with ‘US Marshals’ written on them, handguns pointed at my face,” Beckwith told the mag.

The stunned hiker was promptly handcuffed as one of the feds helped Brettmann get dressed.

It was quickly determined that Beckwith was not the person they were looking for, and agents recommended to him that he shave his beard, which he did. If Laundrie is out and about in the woods, for over a month now, it’s likely that he isn’t maintaining his beard and could look significantly different from how the world has seen him in photos and videos plastered all over the media for nearly 6 weeks.

Beckwith told reporters that he suspects an employee at the resort snapped a photo of him and alerted police that he may be Laundrie, sparking the entire incident.

It’s comforting to know that police are on top of leads, but I can’t help to feel bad for Beckwith and having to go through this scary ordeal. While it was brief, I can imagine that things can stick with people for some time.

Laundrie is still on the run after the homicide of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito. Laundrie returned to his Florida home without Petito in the middle of a cross-country trip that the two had been on. When he returned, he returned alone. Petito’s body was found shortly after, with a coroner ruling her death a homicide by strangulation.
