ATLANTA, GEORGIA — A man was fatally shot in self-defense Monday afternoon, according to Atlanta police. Officers were dispatched to a home at 134 Howell Street for a reported shooting.  Arriving officers found two men on the scene suffering gunshot wounds.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene and the other, the homeowner is now in the hospital in stable condition. The police investigation determined that a man entered the home through a window and attacked the homeowner, who then fired a fatal shot in self-defense.  The homeowner was cooperative with the investigation and authorities say that they do not expect to file charges in the case.

A local school was put on lockdown out of an abundance of caution, but police say that there was never a threat to students or staff there.
