ATLANTA, GEORGIA – A man who shot an off-duty police officer was shot and killed by that officer Monday evening.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting the officer-involved shooting that occurred at 9:52 p.m.

The off-duty officer was working for ATL Plus, a parking enforcement company. He was sitting in his company patrol vehicle when he was approached by a man who shot at him, hitting him in the neck.  The officer was able to return fire and hit the suspect, who died at the scene.

Investigators located a firearm at the scene in possession of the suspect. The ATL Plus employee is a reserve officer for the small city of Molina, about 60 miles from downtown Atlanta. He was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. A female was also found with a gunshot wound and transported to a medical facility for treatment of what is believed to be a graze wound.

The results of the GBI investigation will be forwarded to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
