NEW From Springfield Armory: 1911 RONIN® EMP® 3″ 9MM HANDGUN

Springfield Armory has done it again, this time with an amazing 1911-style handgun that was built around the 9mm cartridge, providing an amazingly beautiful 3″-barreled 1911 Ronin EMP.

The Springfield Armory 1911 Ronin EMP 3″ 9mm

Announced today, it’s a 9+1 round take on the iconic 1911 handgun, and they didn’t sacrifice a thing. The beauty is there, along with the elegance that’s iconic with the 1911 style. Also available in a 4″ barrel, the 1911 Ronin EMP gives concealed carriers a perfect 1911 option in a compact form in terms of both slide and frame.

I’ll let Springfield Armory speak about it’s size, and what it took to get this gun to perfection:

Rather than simply shortening the barrel and slide like most compact 1911 pistols, the EMP also shortens the frame and action. In fact, the pistol features 11 proprietary parts distinct from a standard 1911 as a result of this adaptation. The end result is a pistol with a reduced grip radius for both enhanced comfort and concealability. Proprietary parts include the frame, slide, firing pin, firing pin spring, extractor, ejector, trigger, plunger tube, plunger tube assembly, grips and magazine.

The trigger is just as amazing as it looks, and comes straight back in an extremely fluid fashion. And that grip? It’s absolutely stunning and comfortable at the same time. There’s no debate about the wooden 1911 grips and their look, and Springfield brought that out with this handgun.

The sights are made up of a high-visibility fiber optic front sight and a “Tactical Rack rear sight with white dots and light diffusing serrations.”

It’s quite something holding this 1911 and realizing that, wow, this is a miniature 1911. Everything about it feels like a full-size 1911, and it even has the weight behind it. This isn’t a lightweight polymer pistol. It’s a 24oz aluminum, steel and wood lifesaver that’s easy on the eyes and fun on the range.

I’m looking forward to getting a holster for this bad boy so that I can give it the break-in as a concealed carry firearm. Never did I think I’d carry a 1911, because they’re just too big for me to do so comfortably, but this may change things.
