UPDATE: Teacher Intentionally Shot By 6-Year-Old Student Inside Virginia Elementary School

Update @ 7:16pm: Police say the suspect who shot an elementary school teacher is a 6-year-old student. The student got into an argument with the teacher inside the 1st grade classroom, and that’s when the shot was fired.

NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA — An elementary school teacher was taken to the hospital after police say she was shot inside Richneck Elementary School. Her condition is not known at this time.

Police say this was not an incident where someone was walking around the school and shooting, but would not elaborate. All of the children are safe, and police have a suspect in custody.

“We’re beginning the process to reunite parents with students,” the Newport News Police Department said in a statement. “More information will be released when it is available.”

The investigation is ongoing.
