GARLAND, TEXAS — In the early hours of a Saturday earlier this month, a Garland apartment resident claimed self-defense after fatally shooting two alleged burglars at the Woodlands at The Preserve complex on North Garland Avenue.

Police were alerted to the ongoing burglary and gunfire around 2:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men with gunshot injuries, one inside and the other outside the apartment in question.

Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The apartment resident told authorities that the pair had forcibly entered his home and initiated the gunfire, prompting him to shoot back in self-defense.

The case remained an active investigation at the time of the Star-Telegram’s report.
