CCW IN ACTION: Armed Driver Shoots And Kills Man During Apparent Road Rage Incident

SARASOTA, FLORIDA — A man was killed in a shootout on Fruitville Road in Sarasota County, Florida. The incident occurred on Saturday night and was reported by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies discovered the body of the deceased man in a pickup truck on Fruitville Road near I-75 at around 8:08 p.m. A sedan nearby contained a female driver and her male passenger.

According to the sheriff’s office, the male passenger in the sedan claimed that the deceased man was the driver of the pickup truck. He stated that an argument had taken place between them, which escalated when the pickup driver fired his gun at the two occupants of the sedan. In response, the passenger of the sedan got out of the vehicle and returned fire, fatally shooting the pickup driver. It is worth noting that the passenger had a valid carry concealed weapon license at the time.

As a result of the incident, the eastbound lanes of Fruitville Road were closed from Paramount Drive to I-75. However, by Sunday morning, the road had been reopened as the investigation continued. The two individuals in the sedan were released by the sheriff’s office, pending further investigation.
