New Mexico Mass Shooting: 3 Dead, 9 Injured, 18-Year-Old Suspect Killed By Police

UPDATE: Police say an 18-year-old suspect opened fire on a residential street, killing 3 people and injuring 9 others, including 2 responding police officers.

ORIGINAL STORY:

FARMINGTON, NEW MEXICO — Authorities are currently investigating an incident involving an active shooter. The Farmington Police Department has reported that multiple officers were engaged in a confrontation with the suspect, which ultimately led to the suspect’s death. The identity of the suspect remains unknown, and there are currently no known additional threats.

During the incident, two officers were shot, one from the Farmington Police Department and one from the New Mexico State Police. Thankfully, both officers are currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at the San Juan Regional Medical Center. Tragically, several civilians were also shot, resulting in the loss of at least three lives. It is not known how many people were injured during the attack.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have closed off Dustin Avenue between Ute Street and Apache Street. Individuals are advised to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing. The Farmington Police Department has emphasized that they do not believe there is a second suspect involved in the incident.

In response to the situation, Farmington Municipal Schools placed all schools under preventive lockdowns at the request of the police. However, it is important to note that these lockdowns have since been lifted, and the schools have resumed normal operations.
