Armed Contractors Defend Themselves After Suspect Opens Fire As They Work

JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI — A hospital-bound man is anticipated to face aggravated assault charges following a shooting involving two contractors in Jackson. The contractors, employed by JXN Water, were at a Bellewood Drive property when Jaylon Proctor reportedly arrived and started shooting. In response, the contractors shot back, injuring Proctor three times.

Proctor then fled, eventually crashing his vehicle into a truck on East Northside Drive. The shooting was reportedly triggered by a text message dispute between Proctor and one of the contractors, who are believed to be related. Proctor is currently receiving treatment at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and is in stable condition.

Jackson Police Deputy Chief Sequerna Banks confirmed that Proctor will be arrested and charged upon his recovery. The contractors involved in the incident were unharmed.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no further arrests are anticipated.
